For an artist, drawing a map implies the acceptance of emprisonment inside tyrrannic parameters as far as line and movement are concerned. After several years spent tracing lines that have to have a definite meaning one feels an irrepressible desire to break free from this constraint.
What is a frontier ? A line. What is a level ? A line. A path ? A line. As a tracer of lines, to reproduce coast-lines, the outlines of islands, has been for me an extraordinary experience, I have traced lines that I could never have imagined.
